Could we return to the world of Themyscira soon? Actress Gal Gadot says things are starting to pick up steam on Wonder Woman 3 as the star teased that we will soon return to the fan-favorite DC world in a new interview with Forbes
“We’re talking!” says Gadot. “We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning, and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”
2017’s Wonder Woman was a smash hit, bringing in an impressive $822.3 million at the global box office. Fans and critics both agreed on the film, and it was hailed as one of the best modern superhero entires. Sadly, the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 couldn’t say the same.
1984 grossed $166 million worldwide against a $200 million budget, and it was torn apart by fans. It failed to break even due to its limited theatrical run but did find a home on HBO Max where it became the most-watched straight-to-streaming film of 2020, and the bestselling Blu-ray and DVD of 2021.
Since Wonder Woman 1984, a sequel and a spin-off have been announced. The third entry will head to the theaters, and the spin-off could find a home on HBO Max. Jenkins hinted the spin-off would take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, possibly linking the events between Wonder Woman 1984 and the third Wonder Woman film.
With the recent Warner and Discovery merger, the studio likely wants a secure bet, and many are wondering if Wonder Woman is still that. Only time will tell, but expect another Wonder Woman entry within the next few years.
