Beloved American actress Jennifer Aniston recently opened up about the scrutiny she has received for not having children. At 52, it’s clear that the Friends star has lived a full and exciting life, but it seems the tabloids are never short of harsh criticism.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jen decided to take aim at the unfair scrutiny. “I used to take it all very personally — the pregnancy rumours and the whole ‘Oh, she chose career over kids’ assumption,” said Aniston.
“It’s like, ‘You have no clue what’s going with me personally, medically, why I can’t … can I have kids?’ They don’t know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty.”
In the interview, Aniston pointed out the sexism she realises, in hindsight, was behind the many tabloids, accusing her of choosing career success over starting a family, when men get the opposite treatment for those choices.
‘Am I going to be the miracle mother at 52?’
“Men can be married as many times as they want to, they can marry (younger) women in their 20s or 30s,” she said, pointing out the double standard. “Women aren’t allowed to do that.”
Nonetheless, Aniston seems to have found peace in her career and personal life and though she chooses not to entertain tabloid news about herself anymore, she can laugh about what they’re likely writing.
“Am I still having twins? Am I going to be the miracle mother at 52?” she questions.
